Lately, we outside the US are hearing more and more about the Christian religious lobby becoming more and more powerful and making inroads into government policy, all levels of government.

At first I put this down to just those who don't like the current government stirring up a storm, then I read this, and now I'm not sure what to believe.

How does anyone have the right to say who can or can't live in a house they have bought and paid for? I find the story above totally disgusting.

Is this just the tip of the iceberg, or an isolated incident? The US sells itself as the land of the free, I'm starting to wonder just how true that is.

I think that there isn't exactly anything wrong with it, but people do have their own rights to what they do with their possessions. I wouldn't really worry about it tho, because it's just one town and I doubt that the town is gonna get away with it in the first place sue to all of the organizations going against it.

I think the key thing is that the law this town is enforcing is most likely an "archaic law". You have to remember Arkacia the US was heavily founded on Christian principles. As time progressed the US became more liberal in the bigger areas. Its these small, sometimes southern, towns that like to hold onto those strict christian principles. I don't live in a small town but trust me thats just small town living. This probably started because some old person doesn't approve of these people and created a big stink over nothing. If these people lived in New York, LA, or where i live this wouldn't be a problem. I think the quote at the end of the article explains it all..."I think this is all about the city trying to impose its moral values on its citizens."

That law was only adopted in 1985, it says so in the article, so I won't put this down to America's past. This is something recent, and it is very discriminatory and just plain wrong. Whether parents are married or not is no-ones business. How on earth does whether a couple have a piece of paper saying "yes, we spent a fortune and now share the same last name" or not affect that town on anyone in it?

Fact is they bought that house, it belongs to them, and no-one except the owners, most especially a bunch of morals obsessed wowsers, should ever have the right to decide who can and can't live in it. This whole thing is one of the worst invasions of privacy I have ever heard of.

I seriously hope this law gets wiped out in court, and all US citizens get treated equally in this area, as they should be now. Perhaps the small towns need to be reminded that just because they aren't cities, doesn't mean they can trash the civil and human rights of the people who do chose to live in small communities. Aren't all Americans supposed to be equal under the law?

I just find it hard to accept the US selling itself to the rest of the world as the defenders of freedom, and the land of liberty when it allows sections of its own people to be discriminated against and subject to unjust laws like this.
