We don't call them hurricanes, they are cyclones in this part of the world, even though they are the same sort of storms.
Cyclone Larry hit one of the northern towns of my state head on, Innisfail, a town of 100,000 people. It flattened it and the people there are still rebuilding. Some of the inland towns are still without power. Things are getting better, but it takes time of course. We are still counting our blessings that no-one was killed or seriously injured.
Larry was a catagory 5 when it hit Innisfail, which makes it just as powerfull as Hurricane Katrina was. The difference is it didn't hit a major city. If that cyclone had hit Brisbane (where I live), the damage toll and deaths/injuries would have been much higher.
