Who else besides me feels programs today are on average crappy compared to the classic shows of the 60s and 70s, even some from the 80s. Not all of them of course but quite a few ;).
I also get peeved off with the habit of current shows to start out good, like Charmed, then delvove into romantic crap that ruins the whole show. I watched Charmed, and enjoyed it, until the storyline between Piper and Leo started overpowering the show and eventually destroyed it. I wanted to see the girls killing demons, not going kissy kissy :D.
We have cable and 2 channels are pretty much devoted to old programs. Watching things like the Dukes of Hazzard, The A-Team, Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, Mash, Little house on the prarie, I could go on listing forever, is a thousand times better than Idol, Survival, Big Brother and those type of shows which seems to be the main dish the TV stations like serving up to us these days.
About the only things I like thats made today is a few sitcoms and the Law and Order type shows (CSI, Cold Case, Without a Trace ect).
Maybe its my age showing, or maybe TV today just isn't as good as it used to be. What do others think?
I would have to agree though I don't watch much TV anymore because of that problem. I think the variety of shows is reduced with a big emphasis on a few basic areas like Crime/Drama, Hospital shows, Reality TV and comedy.
Crime shows don't really interest me much but seem to be in abundance, I recall looking at a TV guide once to see CSI listed, followed by CSI Miami and then Law and order. Nothing like a bit of variety.
I hate hospital shows simply because I don't like watching people being cut open and operated on. Also can someone tell me why they have to show a close-up of the needle piercing the skin every time someone gets an injection? I hate that!
Reality TV is really just a cheap program for the TV stations to save money on, they don't need to buy a script or pay actors and yet the shows are still popular. and since all the "reality TV" shows are edited anyway so they are not reality, they are what the producer and editor wants us to see and think.
Since Australia gets most of its comedy shows from America we get the good, the bad and the ugly.....I think the good is a very small proportion of the total content.
My TV viewing time a couple of years ago would have been at least 7 hours a week I think but now I only watch about 1-2 hours a week since there is not much on worth watching. I don't want pay TV since the people I know that have it already say that the same programs are repeated over and over.

I agree, Mick, that most of the stuff on the television is rubbish. I have to keep it clean for my daughter is usually watching it with me, the few times I actually do sit down and watch it. At night, the only thing I really like is CSI on SpikeTV. I know it's a guys channel, but I have more fun watching some of their shows than I do watching the supposed women's channels.

Yeah..alot of shows on tv are mostly something about really nothing..especially todays sitcoms..I like Lifetime all tho ..they say "Television for women" heck I don't really take that into account as I like alot of the shows on that network.. :)

Oh, something I like from reality tv are the shows about adoptions or giving birth. Those are good to watch. And can always be thankful that my delivery wasn't near as hard as all these women I see in there. ;)

I'm fairly young (still in my early twenties) and I adore classic TV shows. Who can go past "I love Lucy", "Get Smart" or even the cartoons back in the day. TV, today, seems to be the same thing but with different titles. I love watching some witty TV, like Veronica Mars and Grey's Anatomy and I even love the suspense of 24 and Prison Break. But, you just cant go past the old classics.

Nah its not nessicarily the TV show thats crappy(Although it can be) But, however, it can also be the type of tv your using. If your using a crappy tv you bought on ebay, thats probably why its in poor quality and sound.

classic tv rules and is much more entertaining
I kinda like a little from both. The other day I deceided to watch a clip of Mr. Ed on youtube and I only did so because the Intro song is funny. I think if you were drunk and watching Mr. Ed you'd be freaking out cause he's a talking horse.

I like the new TV, but I also like the entertainment of old TV, and I cannot *stand* reality TV, or shows such as Getaway. I like some of old TV, but some of the stuff that used to be funny... it's just not funny any more...

I wish there were more shows on like there used to be..I was a little girl in the 70's but I remember Daddy watching shows like little house on the prairie and the Waltons,Leave it to Beaver, and oh my goodness..he watched the Price is right game show everytime it came on and HEE HAW!!
But over all I loved to sit and watch tv with dad and Family in general ,you don't see that much anymore either.

I miss the old tv competitions. Such as the generation game etc. Not all that old by somes reckoning I know. Everythings either money orientated or phone lines or shock factor. Annoying. Top gear is all i have left these days!
