Cats or Dogs?

So which do you prefer and why.

I love cats and own two of them. Have never really been a dog person. I'm afraid I prefer the cats independant nature to the dogs clingy one. Cats also clean themselves, don't bark all night, and don't leave presents dotted all around the backyard :D.

I am a dog lover. I don't dislike cats, but I feel I have more or a good time with my 3 goldenretrievers then I would with a cat.

I like both cats and dogs but I would have to agree that cats are definately less demanding so that would be my choice at the moment. I do think that dogs are great if you have the time to look after them and they are well behaved. The only dogs I don't like are the aggressive ones like the Bull Terrier, mainly because I have been attacked twice by them although I think that is more the owners fault for not raising or treating the dog properly.

I'm pretty much the contrary to Arkacia-san's views. I like dogs, have always liked them, and I've always wanted to have one. I don't really know why I like dogs, perhaps the "clingy nature" is my cup of tea.

Cats... they make me nervous. I cannot say I'd dislike cats in any way, but they just don't appeal to me. I really cannot find basis for my likes and "dislikes", it's just the feeling. ^^;

i think that cats are better than dogs because cats are more relaxed and laid back

dogs are just a waste of time because in the end they are just going to bite u anyway.so why get them??

Despite being bitten by dogs before I disagree with that, I think any dog that is raise with love and kindness and not abused will not bite someone without being seriously provoked. The only time these dogs would attack someone is to protect their owner or family from harm.

I like both cats and dogs..I like both personalities of each animal..
As far as a dog goes.. Not all dogs are out to bite anyone.. if the dog had been abused..yeah..they will carry a life time demeanor with them..as they do not forget that abuse..but they are friendly and do welcome the kindness that a non abuser gives to them..cats are the same way..

Another thing that a dog does.. is that a he/she will read you like a book..if you show them fear..they will take advantage of that and alot of times as a result the dog will take that as an open invitation to do what his/her instincts tell them..and that is the animal will want to take control of the scene..anything you do wrong..you will more then likely get bit..

I like both cats and dogs. Neither of them are my absolute favorites, but I've had more than 1 of each. Currently I have a dog and a rabbit.

Dogs, if they feel they have been provoked and/or cornered, they will also strike out, but I think that goes for any animal.

You're right about the fear thing Yarny, I have a friend who is terrified of dogs for some reason. I don't know why he is so scared of them since he has never been attacked before but the dogs know he is scared and take advantage of that. I have seen dogs bark and jump around looking savage with him and yet if I walk in and they try the same with me, I just tell them in a loud voice to sit down and behave themselves and they will stop being aggressive straight away.

I had a rabbit a long time ago which was really cute but one of my favourites was my neighbours pet Magpie. This bird was like a playful puppy, it was quite affectionate and liked playing games or rolling onto its back for a tummy rub, maybe it thought it was a dog :D

Rabbits make great pets. We had a few years ago in Adelaide South Aust, but unfortunetly this state has a stupid law against keeping rabbits as pets. I can understand that law being in place years ago but now days it seems a bit outdated and unfair.

That is a crazy law..never heard that til now.. especially when it is only a harmless rabbit..

I wouldn't be too sure of that. We used to own a ginger tom who had every dog in the neighbourhood scared stiff of him. I had to rescue a dog from him one day. He was chasing the poor thing around the backyard, while the dog was howling in utter distress. It was one of the funniest sights I've ever seen :D.

Hmmm.... A law against having a rabbit as a pet. :eek: And that was put in place because, why??? And it's funny about that cat having all the neighborhood dogs scared stiff of him. One other thing... Cats can win a fight if they scratch the nose of a dog. The nose being one of the most sensitive parts of dog will make most any dog back down from a fight. :p

The rabbit law was put in place because they are a feral pest in Australia being introduced from the UK and no having natural predators here except the dingo, which developed a taste for them, and the red fox, which is an introduced pest too.

The Queensland government won't allow them to be kept as pets because if they escape or are released into the wild, they will breed and cause a lot of damage. Unlike the rest of Australia, we don't have a huge problem with them in this state.

Racoons and Groundhogs are more so than Rabbits.. just see what happens to your garden..

Now wild dogs and big cats I would consider as such most definitely..

Wild cats and dogs I can see as feral.. But rabbits.... What, are they afraid that the rabbits are going to go out and bite people?? LOL Nah, just kidding. I guess if they don't have very many animals out there that like to hunt them, then they could become overrun. But that doesn't mean they're feral.

how about the dogs that don't bark? I think they are called a Basenji

A friend of mine had a cat and a rat, now you would think the rat wouldn't last 5 seconds with a cat around but this wasn't the case. The rat would hide somewhere and when the cat got close enough the rat would leap out and bite it on the nose..it was so funny to watch..I think the rat was the smarter animal in their case.

As far as I know, its only the state of Queensland that doesn't allow rabbits to be kept as pets. We had them in South Australia and they are great animals to keep. I'd love to have one or two up here but the fine isn't worth the risk.

kk i'd have 2 say dogs are 150% better then cats 'cause all cats do is sit there laying in the sun that is coming throgh the window and dogs u can actully play with.

my sistures cat was being load all night so i yelled at it and the next morning i come down for breakfast and the dam cat had pissed all over my coat. so from there on i am a dog person

I have two dogs

A 3yr old staffordshire bull terrier bitch and a 1yr old pitbull. Both are soppy as anything.

I think you get a lot more affection from dogs. Cats are bit stuck up and think you are their pets. They seem to just eat, sleep, poop and pee all day.
