I wanted to make a thread for events in Music History..
It isn't hard.. all ya do is if you have events feel free to add on..


August 7th:

1965: Herman's Hermits went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'I'm Henry VIII I Am'. The single was only released in the US.

1979: Led Zeppelin played their last ever UK show when they appeared at Knebworth Park.

Born on this Day

1936: Buddy Holly, singer, songwriter, The Crickets, (1957 US No.1 'That'll Be The Day', 1959 UK No.1 single 'It Doesn't Matter Anymore', plus over 15 other UK Top 40 singles). Influenced The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Holly was killed in a plane crash on 3rd February 1959. The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valans were also killed in the crash.

This day in Music

1973: The Rolling Stones kicked off a nine-date UK tour at the Empire Pool London. Tickets £2.20.
1976: the first Buddy Holly week was held by UK fans in London.
1976: Abba were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Dancing Queen', the groups fourth UK No.1.
1985: Ringo Starr became the first Beatle to become a grandfather when his son Zak and his wife Sarah had a daughter Tatia Jayne.

On This day in Music History October 9th

1958 Eddie Cochran recorded the classic song, 'C'mon Everbody', (1959 UK No.6 single and 1979 hit for The Sex Pistols).
1961 Ray Charles started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Hit The Road Jack', it reached No.6 on the UK chart.
1965 The Beatles started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with the Paul McCartney ballad 'Yesterday', giving the group their tenth US No.1. Never released as a single in the UK.
1971 Rod Stewart was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Maggie May', (first released as a B side). The first of six UK No.1's for Stewart
1973 Elvis Presley and Priscilla divorced after six years of marriage. Priscilla was awarded property, $725,000 and $4,200 a month support.
1975 Sean Taro Ono Lennon was born, the only child of John Lennon by Yoko Ono. Lennon retired from music for five years to become a house- husband.
1978 Appearing at Sheffield University, England, The Human League.
1984 Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends', narrated by Ringo Starr was shown for the first time on British TV.

1940 Born on this day, John Lennon, singer, songwriter, guitarist, The Beatles who sold over 20m singles worldwide, (1962-1970), and scored more UK & US No.1 albums than any other group. 1967 'Sgt. Peppers' is the UK's biggest selling album ever. He was shot dead in New York by Mark Chapman on December 8th 1980. In 1990 Lennon's song 'Imagine' was played simultaneously in 130 countries to commemorate what would've been Lennon's 50th birthday. Today he would have been 65.
1944 Born on this day, John Entwistle, bass, The Who, (1965 UK No.2 single 'My Generation' plus over 20 other UK Top 40 hits, 16 US Top 40 singles and rock opera albums 'Tommy' & 'Quadrophenia'). Entwistle died in Las Vagas on June 27th 2002.
