I'm sure there would be plenty of people wanting to sign up if it were made into a league. Enough people participate in it, at least.

I agree it should be an olympic sport.. The IOC has done some reviews as of June 13, 2005. What I'm thinking they will do tho is regulate how Karate will be done..and I'm sure they will use gear instead of the traditional way karate will be done ..

as i said earlyer im a black belt and im thinking the sport part of karate would be sparring for people that dont know what that is 2 people go into the ring and you fight (with pads of coarse) and a punch = 1 point a kick =2 and there is 3 judges that decide if there was a hit or not 1 master judge and to lesser judges and the matches are first to 5 they already have karate tournements butmost people dont think of it as a sport but more an act of disiplin

The one thing about any martial arts..is that not only does it make a means for a sport and yes..the discipline must be there at all times during that event
But also discipline must be there as well in a self defense situation outside of it being a sport.
Part of any martial arts is also to learn discipline and respect..

I know that martial arts are a sport, as much as self-defense training, and discipline training. But, people stay in the sport because they like it, not because they need the extra training, after a point. It's cool that you're a blackbelt, empty. How long did it take for you to get there?

One thing that I like about the self defense part of martial arts..is that it is a clean defensive tool to use against an assailant..especially those that have no desire for weapons such as a hand gun or a knife.. but having said that if you know martial arts and you are approached by an assailant who is dirty and that has a gun or a knife..you should never take them on..no matter how well experienced you may be..

but in karate we learn knife defences i could easaly kill someone if they had a knife but a gun  i ccould not even though we learn gun defences

Doesn't matter..even with a knife..rule of thumb is ..You run like hell..it's just too dangerous

Well, if it's a gun, and they're really intent on using it, you could be regardless, so, to an extent, it might be better to go down fighting, then getting shot in the back.

But think about it if you gonna get shot anyway wouldent you want the guy shooting you to be injured istead of him just shooting you and walking away without a scratch

I think it's smart practice to try to avoid those situations, all together, but, if it isn't possible, and the chances of you getting shot are on the majority, then you need to fight as much as you can. If they just want your wallet, and will run away, then the best thing is to just give it up. Honestly speaking, though, that isn't the case, these days. These people want it all, then try to eliminate the witness, so they can't get in trouble.. In those cases is when you have to try something, anything, to either stay alive, or hurt them, so that, even if you're dead, they'll get caught.

thats a very good point but you also have to take you honor into consideration i mean if they want your wallet and they have a gun give it to them but if they have the knife you can try to attack them

and probebly win
