View Full Version : Movies made into a TV series
I agree with you, Mick, on the multiple sequals that happen to movies these days, but you forgot to mention the fact that a lot of the popular movies, of late, have also been turned into tv shows.
Good point JsWoman, there is that side of it too :) , I don't watch much TV these days so I can't think of any at the moment. Only one that comes to mind is a few years back when we had a Lois & Clark series based on the Superman movie series.
It also works the other way around, ie the movie Starsky and Hutch which came out about 1 -2 years ago based on the series in the 70's.(I think it was the 70's, not sure on that, never watched it). Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were pretty funny too, I like both Actors in most of their movies.
Hmmmm...sorry but I haven't got anything more to say about the Star wars series :p

I know this is off the topic of Star Wars, but it does relate to the subject of movies turned into shows... StarGate SG1 and StarGate Atlantis are both shows that are based off the movie StarGate. And another is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie and the series.
I'm sure they'll think of something that will be based off of Star Wars once all the movies are out. But, that's just my opinion.
We are starting to wander off the Star Wars topic so I split the thread into a new one. I should have remembered SG1 and Buffy, I used to watch both occasionally though I can't say I was a big fan.
Also have you noticed how some TV series start with a movie length first episode, or even 2 movie length shows, to set the scene and get people interested in the series.

In 1970 MASH came out as a movie..
In 1972 MASH then became a TV show ran til 1983
MASH was a classic show! I haven't watched them all but is is still on TV around 5PM on weekdays so I still watch it sometimes. It is old now but still one of those that stands out in history and still entertaining to watch.
I even worked for a company named after one of the characters :D , the director was a big fan of the show.

Yeah, can't forget MASH. But as far as StarGate and Buffy, I liked the movies, but not really all that thrilled with the series.... Seems, to me, to be the same thing over and over.... New characters, but same story, different day.
As far as it being split into another thread, that has to be a moderater thing, huh? LOL Cool stuff, no matter how it's done.

I'm the same, I think the movies were good but the series was average, excluding MASH of course :D

Buck Rogers.... I know it, but that was well before my time.... I was born in 81, so by the time I would have been old enough to watch it, I was interested in different things.
As far as the mod thing, Mick, I still think it's cool.

Yeah, its just you on knowing almost exact dates, but it's alright. Some people are just better at dates and such than other people are. We have one of each, at least here. *points to yarnell and herself*

Yeah, all good choices. Do we have a thread in here about books made into movies, or movies made into books? If not, there's a whole new topic waiting to be made.
