To replace the animal connection game, I've decided to start something on the same subject, but this game will require a bit more thinking :).
The idea of the game is the same as the geography quiz. One poster puts in clues for an animal, bird, insect, dinosaur etc, and the rest of us try to guess what it is from the clues given. The person who gets the right answer, puts in the next animal.
You can make the clues as easy or hard as you wish, and may use pictures as I've done in the first question below (if you use pics, please try to keep them to a resonable size).
ok, I'll do an easy one ( I hope ) for the first question....
What Australian bird is this?
That is easy:)....it's a Kookaburra......there is one in our neighbourhood that is almost tame, you can nearly hand feed it....maybe one day.
What animal makes a lid for it's hole in the ground?
Trap door spider... ? (do we have them in Oz? or other tunneling spiders? I've seen some odd looking holes in a place where I've been working and I have eyed them with some trepidation)
My turn? :)
My average life span is 2 weeks
Yes... apparently we do get them in Oz.... some trapdoor species do not make a lid for their hole despite the name. You can see more info here (http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/trapdoor_spiders.htm) .... they are really cute and cuddly like care bears, have a look Mantzaros:D
2 weeks???... hmmmm..... is it a silkworm?

Arkacia

A mayfly perhaps?
I know they have one of the shortest lifespans of any creature on the planet.
All very close.... it is an insect...
The common House Fly only lives an average of 2 weeks.
Who's next? :)
Freakums
03-19-2005, 05:55 PM
the house fly is the black fly!!!!!!
hmmm . . . . what animal is often described as likenign itself as a god? hint, iot likes milk
Arkacia
03-19-2005, 06:03 PM
hmm, could it be the common, everyday house cat?

Sound right to me, oh and the mayfly lives for 24 hours... (in adult form) thus it's order Ephemeoptera which loosely translates into "lives but for a day wing" ... but yeah. The egyptians held cats sacred... no?
Freakums
03-21-2005, 06:02 PM
yep . . . both right . . ..
either very ahrd oir easy for peopel really.
btw,l pollovio, the cat isn often descirbed (psychologically) as thnking itself to eb a god because iot is only asked to be pretty anmd petable while we feed, shelter it, keep it safe, etc.

This one should be a bit harder :).
I want to know what is the common name French people call this little insect.
The scientific stuff is - Pyrrochoris apterus : Hemiptères (?) without wings, color red, with geometrics black draws on their back, very common on sunny areas. Synonym : Seek-noon.
and thanks to DarkLord for the info and picture :).

interesting. none esle but me kniows this one yet . . . . perhaps I should say the name of it: but, I think that would be unfair .. . .so i will refuse to answer again.
editL ahhhh . . .. heck with it. in english, their name is the common fire bug. not the fire fly, the fire bug. big difference. there are other species called firebugs, however, so if you want me to be more precise . .. ...
Arkacia
04-01-2005, 07:28 PM
Yes, I do, the question was that I want the name the French call them.
Though, leaning the english name is good, we don't have these bugs in Australia, so they're new to me :).

I have one term that French people use in what they call their police officers.

Oh dear, and I thought that clue would have the answer solved in 5 seconds flat :D.
The name I am looking for is the French word for policeman (well the word I know them as anyway) and also the name the French call this little critter, its one and the same and the word starts with G.
Now someone must know that :D.
yarnellcg17
09-09-2005, 03:51 AM
Ok goes for the 1st hunch I had :D ..and the G's were these words...
1 of these 3 have to be right  hehehe..
Gendarmerie or gendarmery or gendarme de Grasse or garde champetre
Arkacia

Hint: Some people say Easter ***** brings Easter eggs in ********, not Easter Bunny!
Arkacia
09-10-2005, 06:35 PM
Thats so easy, its a bilby :).
and despite its supporters best efforts, it still hasn't replaced the easter bunny, who as every Australian child knows, isn't one of our feral pest wild rabbits ;).

10-05-2005, 09:07 AM
bryce909bryce you are correct it is an albino squirrel :) and not a cat as you had posted earlier..creating a double post..which is not permitted in a thread.. therefor that post was deleted..
You are very welcome to post an animal for us to guess on since you got the quiz right :)

I live high up in the canopy of trees, sleeping and eating buds, leaves and young twigs. I sleep for 19 hours a day, hanging up-side down, and can only move 6 feet a minute.
What animal am I?

Well Done !!!
Arkacia
11-05-2005, 03:49 AM
That was pretty easy actually. After watching a lot of British TV shows, I have learned a lot about badgers ;):).
Next animal is an insect. It is only fairly small, but is one of the most destructive to crops on the planet. This insect can hop or fly in huge groups/swarms/clouds depending on age, and eats any vegetation it can get its mandibles on.

My guess is Locusts. Don't know if I spelt that right. Did you know they were actually grasshoppers gone bad?
yarnellcg17
11-09-2005, 02:36 PM
I have to 2nd that it would be the not so environmentally friendly Locust..

Thank you, Arkacia.
This silver or dark poultry breed is distinguished by its five toes. They are large, broad-breasted poultry with an abundance of hackle feathers and are well suited to the outdoors due to the ability to forage. (And this is a certain kind of Poultry, need the full name for it be correct.)
yarnellcg17
11-14-2005, 01:12 PM
Dorkings is what I have for an answer :D
JsWoman
11-14-2005, 01:18 PM
And dorkings are what kind of poultry??? I told you it had to have the whole name to be right, Yarnell.
yarnellcg17
11-14-2005, 01:20 PM
Ok Js..it isn't a Turkey..but it is a Dorkings Chicken,,there how that :angel2:
JsWoman
11-14-2005, 01:22 PM
Well, I did say when I posted it that it had to be the full name, so you left yourself open for that. Now that you have the full name up, the floor is your's. :p :p :p
