New members guide for Randomgames.com

Welcome to Randomgames

General

What is Randomgames.com? - Randomgames.com is an online arcade that offers free flash games for its members. It also has a forum for members to chat, discuss and debate any number of topics and subjects.

I've registered, what should I do first? - Your first stop should be The rules. (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76) This thread is stickied at the top of each forum (except Feedback and Announcements). Then it may be a good idea to have a quick look at the threads in the Announcements forum (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=6). If you are new to forums in general, or vb3 in paticular, you may want to check out the FAQ (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain). You are then free to start posting. We have a Member introduction thread (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74) where you can say hi and tell us about yourself if you wish. There is also a "Bar" thread called the RG Inn (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110) which is the place to go if you want to talk about how your day was, what you are doing or talk about anything else with other members while you have a "Virtual drink" of your choice.

I can't play the games, why? - This site has a policy where a member must post 15 posts on the forum before the arcade will open. You are free to post in the existing threads, or start new threads of your own. You can find further information on this policy in this thread, Important announcement (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123&page=1&pp=10).

Posting on the Forum

How do I post a message? - You find a subject that interests you, then read the first post by the thread starter. After that its best to read the other posts in the thread to get an idea of how others have answered. If you want to add a message to that thread, just click on the post reply button on the bottom left of the thread, or you can use the quick reply box. When you are happy with your message, click the post/submit reply button, and your message will be added to the thread. There is a lot more information on posting, and using different fonts, colours, etc in the FAQ.

Can I start a new topic? - If you want to talk about a subject that does'nt already have a thread devoted to it, you are more than welcome to start a new one. Go to the forum you subject fits into, for example arcade game related threads go in Arcade Chat, sports into The Stadium etc, and click on the new thread button. Then post your question/message and submit. Your new thread will appear at the top of the forum, just under the stickies.

What am I allowed to post - As long as it stays within the rules, you can post pretty much anything you like. Do try to post new threads in the correct forum, and search first to make sure your topic does'nt already exist. You are not allowed to post anything that is illegal, or offensive (includes porn and graphic violent images). Also, you can post in any thread that interests you no matter how old the last post. There is no rule against gravedigging, or necromancing old threads here. If its not locked and/or in the Crypt, the thread is open for new posts.

We do have some rule differences in the Serious Discussion forum. This area was set up for indepth discussion and debate on more touchy subjects than are covered in the rest of the forum. Its important you read the rules thread in here, as there are some extras added, and remember that posts here are expected to have a length of at least 20 words. Any short posts, or posts that don’t add something to the discussion in the thread concerned, will be deleted.

Private Messages

How do I send a private message? - Find the name of the person you wish to send a message to (in a post, the current user list, or the member list etc), and click on their username. This will bring up their profile, and an option to send that person a private message, or PM. Click on the "send a private message to ..... link, and the private message page will come up. Type what you want the title of the message to be in the title box, and the message itself in the message box. When you are finished, you can preview what the message will look like if you wish. When ready, click on submit message, and it will automatically be sent.

How do I know if someone has sent me a private message? - If you have enbabled the notification of private messages in your profile (under options), you will have a box popup and let you know you have a message. You can also enable an email alert to be sent when you receive a new message. The last option is to check the upper right of the main forum page when you come online, near the private message link there, It will tell you if you have any unread messages, and the total messages, read and unread, you have stored.

The Arcade

What does the menu at the top of the main arcade page mean? - This menu gives you access to various arcade only features such as...

Arcade Home - brings you back to the main arcade page.

Your Settings - Lets you decide if you wish to allow other members to challenge you (a more detailed explaination of challenges and how they work is a bit further down). Also lets you decide if you want arcade alerts sent to you by email, which lets you know if someone beats one of your highscores.

Your Statistics - Lets you know how many sessions you have had in the arcade, also how many minutes you have spent playing, your last five games played, and any trophies you have earned.

Challenges - Gives you the the final scores and participants of the last 10 challenges played out in the arcade.

This game looks fun, but how do I play it? – You can find information on how to play the games in this thread Master games list and play instructions (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118&page=1&pp=10). The posts in this thread will give you a description of the game, a screenshot, and some hints and tips. The game name in each post is a link to the game itself in the arcade. There are also threads in the Arcade chat forum that covers some of the games, you may find some interesting information in them as well.

How do I challenge someone in the Arcade? - First you need to find the persons Arcade Statistics, so they need to have played a game before you can challenge them. Look in the high score table for the persons name and click on it, this brings up their statistics in the Arcade. You will then see an option to challenge them in the Arcade, select that and then choose the game you want to play.

The IRC

What is the IRC? - IRC is an acronym, and means Internet Relay Chat. Its a tool that people from all over the internet can use to talk, using text messages, to each other in real time. Like being in the same room of a house, or on a phone. Using IRC, people from all over the world can talk in a group, or privately for as long as they want, and unlike a phone, it is free.

How do I use it? - There are two ways. You can click on the link on the IRC forum chat link, or the button in the top right side of your main menu bar. These links will take you straight into the chat with your RG nickname. You need to have java enabled on your computer for the site client to work. If you are having problems connecting, see this thread (http://www.randomgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300) for help. If you are still having problems, contact one of the super moderators by PM, and they will assist you. There is general information on different things you can do on IRC, and some of the different clients you can use to access it in that thread as well.

Who can I contact for help, and how? - The current staff on Randomgames are..

This guide is really out of date now because the arcade has totally changed. I will archive this one and write another guide out soon.
