I got the idea for this thread from a post in another thread in here.

Which so called sport do you feel does'nt deserve to be called a sport?

For me, its syncronized swimming, lawn bowls and table tennis. These are good hobbies, but are'nt true sports. How these three became Olympic and/or Commonwealth games events is beyond me.

Add another one to the list, Beach volleyball.

I always thought this "game" was just an excuse for girls in bikini's to jiggle their boobs around in front of the lifesavers :D.

Now its in the Olympics? Australia have even won a medal.
Sheesh, can't wait for the gumboot throwing to make it as an Olympic sport too:D:rolleyes:.

I like Beach volleyball...... OK so maybe I only watch the womens games but I do play occasionally. How do you really define a sport. Beach volleyball is a fairly active game, the sand makes it harder to move quickly, it has a ball, a net, 2 teams and an umpire.... what more could you want? :D

These are really just my personal opinions Mick, I fully understand that people won't agree with some or all of them :).

For me, true Volleyball is a sport, but beach volleyball is a passtime, or hobby. If beach volleyball can be classed as a sport because of the criteria you mentioned, then that opens the door to a whole load of sport varients becomeing part of the Olympics (for example). Under the beach volleyball varient, Totem tennis is a sport too, as its derived from true tennis (for those that don't know what TT is, I've attached a pic below), though it started out as a kids toy.

Baseball. I know alot of people like it, but it just doesnt seem athletic or fun to me. I mean half the time your not on the field, then when you are you either hit a ball with a stick or stand around and wait for a ball to come to you. Super Fun :D

more athletic than golf. you still just hit a ball but instead of running, you just walk up to it and hit it again.

I saw a good version of golf on TV the other day called speed golf. The players had to finish the course as quickly as possible and they didn't have golf buggies, they had to run!!

could they hit each other with golf clubs while the other is trying to hit the ball? cuz THEN it would be interesting. :p

Golf is great fun so dont tease it if you have a problem ive started a new thread in the off topic lounge so say it there

Arkacia

Its not in the Off topic lounge anymore :).

As golf is considered a sport (no matter what a persons opinion of it is), it belongs in The Stadium, so I moved the thread ;).

and please don't tell people not to diss a sport in this thread, that what I started it for. As a place for people to have a bit of a rant about what they think is a real sport, and what they think is'nt one ;):D.

yer but driving a sick fast car at deathly speeds, must be interestin for the driver, also must take some skill

that speed golf sounds quality to, they should really make the time short, and two players would have to be on same court, and full violence was allowed, without use of weapons such as golf clubs etc, would be totally hectic and funny

anyone ever see tht show Takeshis castle on challenge tv, they should definately turn tht into an olympic style sport/show, looks hell of a challenging and entertaining

sport that shouoldn't be a sport?
how about womens hockey?
personnally, i think that if you have a memorial dedicated to aplayer where shards of her skull are still stuck in the concrete foundation of the rink, somethings gone horribly wrong.

but seriously, I don;t think that clay shooting should be considered a sport. All you do is shoot clay dishes with a shotgun. Where is the athletic ability in that? Doesn't even make a good arcade game.

Now oi, Freakie! Clay shooting made a great closing event for the legendary Summer Games on C64 platform. :D Even though I admit it's not extremely spectator-friendly (even though during Olympic Games I DO watch it), it's definitely fitting better into the concept of sports than for example synchronized swimming. :D

I personally could never consider skateboarding sports (attitude problem, alright). I had a fine blacklist for these 'non-sports' back in time, but I guess most of them have now been forgotten.

edit: oh yeah, and women's beach volleyball is one of the most important sports in the world. Men's beach volley should be banned for good, especially in telly, though. :p

Is fishing considered a sport? Well, I dont think that it should be. Dont get me wrong, I love fishing, but its more of having the skill, and liking to fish. I believe its more of a hobby. But if ya call it a sport thats alright with me! :) ~Tiff~

Ugh, get rid of lame sports like Baseball and Golf! NO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INVOLVED! Why is LaX not in the Olympics yet? Disgusting! But there is Worldwide competition for Baseball??? This concept escapes me

It takes skill to play darts, but I don't think it should be considered as a sport. That's, in my opinion, plain idiocy.

Gambling can be fun, a game, and/or an addiction... Thats not a sport, to me, either.
