Well, I am a doubter on the story of Atlantis, because I believe thats just what it is, a story.
This is a quote by me from the Atlantis thread on Oldgames...

I'm not an expert on Atlantis, but from what I have read, Plato wrote down a tale told to him by someone else. Perhaps this is a bit like the Grimms fairy tales, some of which are based on something or someone that existed or happened in the distant past, but changed and distorted as the story was told and retold down through history.
I do'nt believe Atlantis existed as told by Plato, but do believe the story may have some sort of a factual basis, and has suffered from the changes that happen to stories that are passed down the generations orally.

The problem with scientists and Atlantis searchers today, is that they take Plato's story as complete fact, and only look for sites that match his discription. They have even been known to "stretch" the facts of a new site to fit in with Plato's discription. The chances that IF Atlantis existed, it would be exactly as Plato discribed, is extremely small.

I am not surprised that manmade features have been found in the Mediterranian sea, as that is a well known earthquake/volcano zone, a prime example is Thera/Santorini, and I am sure there are many, many ancient sites still undiscovered there that have nothing to do with Atlantis either, but are just the results of natural disasters that happened long, long ago.

i dont believe it, but thats still pretty cool

edit- i think atlantis is something that formed by word of mouth, kinda like the child game telephone. The original topic never stays the same by the end...

Well although it probably didn't/doesn't/never will exist... it is always nice to have a story to spark the imagination drained from us over time :D .
